Gender: God’s Design vs. Society’s Deception
The latest executive order from President Trump reaffirming traditional views on gender has sparked widespread conversation—especially about the nature of gender itself. Many have long promoted the idea that “gender is fluid,” but even nature itself proves this concept to be false. God’s design, as outlined in Scripture, stands in direct contrast to these modern ideologies. So, as Christians, we must ask ourselves: Will we stay silent, or will we speak up and make a stand for the truth?
Let’s take a look at what God says about gender. In Genesis 1:27, the Bible tells us, “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” This is clear: God designed humanity with two distinct genders—male and female. It’s not a matter of personal identity or choice. This is God’s creative order.
In contrast to God’s clear design, there are voices like Rachel Williams, who argue that the distinction between male and female is “pernicious both conceptually and politically,” suggesting we should abandon it altogether. Similarly, professors like Atkins from Duke University claim that using biological markers like chromosomes and reproductive organs to classify people is “counter to medical science.” These claims beg the question: why is this notion being applied to humans but not to animals, who seem to have no confusion about their God-given roles?
Consider the American Psychological Association’s definition of gender identity: “a person’s internal sense of being male, female, or something else.” However, in nature, animals are not confused about their gender roles, and their bodies clearly reflect their biological design. Humans, too, are designed by God, and while society may try to confuse the issue, this does not change the truth of God’s creation.
Sadly, the push to redefine gender has even reached our children. Through materials like the “Genderbread Person,” activists are teaching children that gender is a spectrum, with five different characteristics. This graphic suggests that one’s gender identity can be separated from biological sex. It’s troubling to think that such ideas are being taught in schools to young minds. Thankfully, President Trump’s executive order is taking steps to protect children by eliminating these ideologies from classrooms. I agree—this kind of teaching is nothing short of child abuse.
Let’s be clear: non-heterosexual attractions and gender confusion are not merely controversial or uncomfortable topics—they are sinful. The Bible teaches that all sin is unnatural, whether it manifests as theft, adultery, or gender confusion. Homosexuality is sin, just as all sin separates us from God’s perfect design.
The question we must ask ourselves as Christians is, “What will we do?” Will we allow this confusion to reign, or will we stand firm on God’s truth? As we reflect on the Bible, we see that God created male and female in His own image—distinct but complementary, with unique roles and functions. The roles of masculinity and femininity are not about superiority or inferiority. Instead, they are about function
Consider the way God reveals Himself in Scripture: He is the ultimate initiator, the Father. And we, as His image-bearers, reflect that design. Men are called to be leaders, protectors, and providers. As Jeff Johnson from Focus on the Family explains, “both the masculine and feminine reflect things about God’s character—justice and mercy, strength and beauty, nurture and protection.” Masculinity is about taking action, initiating movements, and protecting the vulnerable. Feminine strength is about nurturing, responding, and building relationships. These roles are complementary, not in conflict.
In the animal kingdom, we see male dominance as part of God’s natural order. In the same way, the Bible teaches that men are to take leadership in the home and society. It’s not about inequality—it’s about God’s divine order, where men lead and women support. This is God’s design for marriage and family life.
But there’s more to masculinity and femininity than just roles—they are a reflection of God’s image. As Alan Medinger explains, “The masculine is outer-directed; the feminine is inner-directed.” Men are outward-facing, taking on the world, while women are focused on relationships, nurturing, and responding. This is why men throughout history have led great movements, built empires, and spearheaded innovation—because masculinity is about initiation and conquering. It’s not about being better than women; it’s about fulfilling a unique role in God’s plan.
Women, too, have their own unique roles, and they are just as vital to God’s design. A woman’s strength lies in nurturing, supporting, and guiding the next generation. She is the one who shapes society’s future by raising children, teaching values, and providing a safe haven for her family. As Hina Chadre writes, “No other job carries such massive consequences for our world” than motherhood and raising the next generation.
The Bible speaks of women’s unique role in nurturing, and history is filled with women who exemplify these qualities. Mary, the mother of Jesus, is the epitome of feminine strength and grace. Her contemplative nature and deep connection to God’s plan are qualities that every woman can aspire to. The role of women in the family is foundational, as they bring balance and beauty to the hard realities of life.
As Christians, we are called to reflect God’s glory through our distinct roles as men and women. Our world is desperately trying to redefine what God has clearly designed, but we must resist. The gospel is at stake, and we cannot let the world’s confusion silence the truth. The Bible warns that “if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost” (2 Corinthians 4:3-4). The world may label us as bigoted or intolerant, but we must speak the truth in love. Our free speech, and more importantly, our God-given rights, are being threatened, but we cannot be silenced.
Men, rise up and take responsibility. Lead with strength and courage, even when it’s hard. Be proud of who God created you to be—an image-bearer of His glory. Women, embrace your unique role in God’s design. You are the crown of creation, the nurturers, the ones who mold the next generation. You are not inferior, but a reflection of God’s beautiful and necessary design.
God created us male and female, and He declared it very good. Let us stand firm in His truth and push back against the lies of this world. As Christians, we must fight to protect God’s design for gender and raise our voices in defense of His glory.
Take the stand. Speak the truth. Stand for God’s design.
